There are lots of things on post that are in awesome condition compared to what I saw at Fort Lewis, WA. I have gone to the PX and commissary here lots of times. They are huge! From what everyone keeps telling me Graf. has the largest PX in Europe. I drove by the gym yesterday and it is huge and very pretty to look at. I haven?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t actually been in it yet but I have looked up the scheduled for the class they have for you to take. There are lots of really good places to eat off post and a lot of places around post actually deliver there.

New Years- I have got to say that this New Years was the best one I have ever experienced ever. Germans know how to seriously blast off into a new year. I say this because right as the church my friends and I were standing next to started tolling that it was midnight, people of all ages started lighting fireworks off. They were probably lighting fireworks off in the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìtown square?¢‚Ǩ¬ù of Weiden for probably a good hour after midnight. It is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen. All our pictures from midnight have a red glow on them because of the fireworks. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s crazy that you watch fireworks for about an hour then everyone clears out and goes back to the bar or club they were before midnight and continue drinking for hours afterwards like nothing had happened.

Leaving the states we were more than excited to be moving to Germany. We are now here at Grafenworhr and have been less than pleased. With no car, lack of area knowledge and the obvious language change we were told that we had to find our own non government private rental with no help from housing at all. We were shown one apartment with horrible living conditions and told that of we did not take it that we would be on our own to find a place to live. We have been living in a hotel that cost $100.00 per day for 25 days and now are expected to pay that plus first month rent deposit and fee for the real-estate agent that we had to hire. Going to the finance dept here we were advised that we were going to have to take out loans and/or up to three months pay advance putting us into DEBT!!! I did not move to Germany to go into debt!!! Only bumping into a Officer?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s wife were we informed that we could have a ETP signed to recoop monies spent for the agent.

I am however thankful for the meeting with my husbands 1st Sgt today. He took the time to sit down listen to what was going on, request information and help us. However, as much as he knows i am hoping to gather more information as to how it is possible to send families here with the expectations of knowing all of the information if no one is willing to do their jobs.

FINANCE : Told my husband and myself that she needed a?¢‚Ǩ¬ù bullet proof jacket?¢‚Ǩ¬ù for her job and also informed me that DLA was not for ?¢‚Ǩ?ìcurtians and fancy dinners?¢‚Ǩ¬ù I was beyond shocked and taken back by this. It is going to cost $6000.00 US for us to move out of the hotel and into our house and we were informed that that money would be given back to us in 6 to 8 weeks!!!! Then she looked at my husband and asked him ?¢‚Ǩ?ìwhat?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s your problem?¢‚Ǩ¬ù when he was looking in his phone for a phone number and not even talking to the woman. She then looked at me and said ?¢‚Ǩ?ìWHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO!?¢‚Ǩ¬ù I replied with?¢‚Ǩ¬¶.?¢‚Ǩ¬ùI would like you to help me?¢‚Ǩ¬ù.

I hope you all have better luck than us!!!

Grafenwoehr is not very big but has many great resources like self help, library, ACS, thrift store, craft store, and a nice px/commissary. The medical center is fast, efficient, and very helpful.

There is a great Chinese place to eat right outside Gate 1. Best suggestion I can give is try EVERYTHING, you won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t be disappointed!
